  1. Understanding the demand

    Before we choose any equipment we check what your building needs: depending on the project, heating and cooling loads, electricity use, hot water, existing installations and the conditions on site.

  2. Sizing the components correctly

    We size the systems to those figures, from the heat pump to the air conditioning and solar PV with a battery. Output is only part of it: operating conditions, efficiency, available space and cost-effectiveness count too.

  3. Integrating the technology into the building

    Good building services have to fit the architecture and the other trades. We plan plant space, pipe and cable routes, connections and interfaces, and coordinate them with the architect, consultants and contractors.

  4. Supervising the installation

    A plan only becomes a good system once it is installed, set up and commissioned properly. We coordinate the trades involved and follow the installation through to commissioning.

What does Greenox's building services engineering include?
We calculate your building's heating and cooling loads and its electricity and hot water demand, size and select the equipment (heat pump, air conditioning, solar PV and batteries), plan the plant room and the pipe and cable routes, coordinate everything with the architecture and the trades, and follow the installation through to commissioning.
Why isn't a rule of thumb per square metre enough?
Because the real load depends on insulation, orientation, windows, how each room is used and how much hot water you need, not just on floor area. An oversized unit keeps switching on and off, uses more energy and wears out sooner; an undersized one can't heat or cool the rooms on the hottest and coldest days. That is why we calculate before we choose the equipment.
When should I bring you into my project?
For a new build, before the construction design stage or at the latest before the structure goes up: that way the plant room, the outdoor unit plinth, floor penetrations and the electrical supply are planned in from the start, while they cost little. Because we also do the building work, we prepare it in the same phase. For a renovation, before you buy any equipment.
I'm an architect: how do you work with my project?
We work from your drawings: you get the loads, the equipment sizing, the MEP service routes and the space the plant room needs, so you can build them into your design. The project stays yours; we make sure the services fit and then install them on site.
Heat pump, air conditioning or both? And underfloor cooling?
It depends on your home's heating and cooling loads and how you want heat and cooling distributed. A heat pump with underfloor heating can also cool in summer, but in Mallorca it needs humidity control (dew point monitoring) and is often combined with fan coils or dehumidification. We decide with the calculation, not out of habit. More on heat pumps and air conditioning.
Do you also plan hotels and apartment buildings?
Yes. In hotels and apartment buildings we plan hot water with storage for peak demand and the temperatures required for Legionella prevention, boiler replacement, zoned air conditioning and solar PV. In hotels we schedule the work for the months when they are closed. More on hotel renovations and new builds.
